The Freedom of the beating heart

In addition to my work with Ayahuasca, I've attended ceremonies with Yopo (Anadenanthera Peregrina), a traditional medicine used by several Amazonian communities, among them the Wottüja or Piaroa, a native community in southern Venezuela. This sacred plant demands and reinforces Discipline, and it's given me enormous understanding about my body, my aggression and my warrior blood. However, perhaps the greatest revelation that I've found with it has to do with Pleasure.

In October, 2019, I attended a very strong ceremony in which I faced a profound fear. As I explored it, I realized that I feared being free, because Freedom paradoxically demands Responsibility. A being that's free must accept the circumstances and flow with them, fulfill their Purpose without dilation or distractions and give in completely to the consequences of their choices. As I write these lines, I can see with greater clarity why this terrified me so, because the path that I've had to walk since then hasn't been easy and everything I've lived in the past few months has demanded of me deep acceptance and constancy. But I wouldn't change it for anything nor would I stray even a centimeter from my route, I feel passionate about who and what I am, I'm excited to do what I do.

In that ceremony I also understood that Freedom and Pleasure are the same, that when we're all gathered around the Fire of the Tribe, we're freer together than apart because each of us can then concentrate exclusively to fulfilling our task while the others fulfill theirs, and we all support and heal each other just by doing what we love without exception. Late last year, while I read Frank Herbert's "Dune", this understanding became even fuller and I could internalize that Discipline and Freedom are synonymous, therefore, being disciplined is also inviting enjoyment into our lives. The River flows happy through its course, the Bird glides happy through the air, and human beings work happy in whatever inspires us.

We all have a Mission, a precise function in the Universe's infinite machinery. Those who resist this energy suffer in constant denial and fear. Those who surrender just keep expanding more and more. When you find your Path in this world, never spare any sacrifice or dedication in walking it, the reward will be ever-growing joy.

La Libertad del corazón latiente

Además de mi trabajo con la Ayahuasca, he asistido a ceremonias de Yopo (Anadenanthera Peregrina), una medicina tradicional usada por varias comunidades amazónicas, entre ellas los Wottüja o Piaroa, una comunidad nativa del sur de Venezuela. Esta planta sagrada demanda y refuerza la Disciplina, y me ha abierto enorme entendimiento sobre mi cuerpo, mi agresión y mi sangre guerrera. Sin embargo, quizás la más grande revelación que he encontrado con ella tiene que ver con el Placer.

En octubre de 2019 asistí a una ceremonia muy fuerte en la que enfrenté un profundo miedo. Al adentrarme en él, me di cuenta de que temía ser libre, pues la Libertad paradójicamente exige Responsabilidad. Un ser que es libre debe aceptar las circunstancias y fluir con ellas, cumplir por su Propósito sin dilación ni distracciones y entregarse por completo a las consecuencias de sus decisiones. Mientras escribo estas líneas, puedo ver con mayor claridad por qué ésto me aterrorizaba tanto, pues el camino que he tenido que recorrer desde entonces no ha sido fácil y todo lo que he vivido en los últimos meses ha demandado de mí gran aceptación y constancia. Pero no lo cambiaría por nada ni me desviaría un centímetro de mi ruta, me apasiona ser quien y lo que soy, me emociona hacer lo que hago.

En esa ceremonia también comprendí que la Libertad y el Placer son lo mismo, que cuando todos estamos reunidos en torno al Fuego de la Tribu, somos más libres juntos que separados ya que cada quien entonces puede dedicarse exclusivamente a cumplir con su tarea mientras los otros cumplen con la suya, y todos nos apoyamos y sanamos mutuamente tan sólo por hacer lo que amamos sin excepción. A finales del año pasado, mientras leía la saga "Dune" de Frank Herbert, esta comprensión se completó aún más y pude internalizar que la Disciplina y la Libertad son sinónimos, por lo tanto, ser disciplinados es también invitar el disfrute en nuestra vida. El Río fluye feliz por su cauce, el Ave navega feliz por los aires, y el ser humano labora feliz en aquello que le inspira.

Todos tenemos una Misión, una función precisa en la infinita maquinaria del Universo. Los que se resisten a esta energía sufren en constante negación y temor. Los que se entregan, tan sólo se expanden más y más. Cuando encuentren su Camino en este mundo, no escatimen sacrificios ni dedicación en caminarlo, la recompensa será siempre mayor goce.
